Making healthier eating choices and opting to join gyms and health centers has propelled the MENA region's fitness and health club market to new heights.
MENACatalyst met with CEO Ali Tazami and CTO Subhi Maraabeh, founders of Palestinian based Inggez, to learn how their dedicated application is disrupting the fitness industry while making it easier for people to live their best lives.
What is Inggez and what inspired you to start it?
Tazami: Inggez is a mobile application that works as both a flexible and cost-efficient fitness option to help health-conscious consumers manage and lead a healthier lifestyle. We understand that people live hectic lives, making it hard to keep up with work, family, and our social lives, so we wanted to take an innovative approach to gym memberships, which hasn't been done before.
How does it work?
Maraabeh: We wanted to give power back to the consumer, so we created Inggez, which offers on-demand gym access. So if you want to join a certain activity at a gym but aren't necessarily a member, Inggez solves this. With Inggez, you don’t need to commit to a single overpriced gym membership. Instead, you can purchase long-term prepaid credit and visit the gym of your choice.
Tazami: We have a network of gyms available on our app. Users can purchase prepaid credit redeemable at any of our partner gyms, and even learn about their different activities. For example, users can join swimming, weightlifting, boxing, and even yoga classes at the most convenient location and time. All the information for the activities and their schedules are included in the Inggez app, so you don't have to worry about missing out.
Inggez is now available for both IOS and Android users, and apart from the network of gyms accessible on the application, users can take advantage of a fully integrated tracking program to stay up-to-date with their training and workout sessions.
What are your thoughts on the market potential for Inggez?
Maraabeh: We understand the impact and potential of the fitness and health industry, which has become a multi-billion dollar industry across the region. We also recognize that the region is struggling with high obesity rates. So our approach was to combine market trends and take advantage of the growing popularity of the health and fitness industry while appealing to the dedication people have to live better, and Inggez was the answer.
Users don’t have to spend excessive amounts of money on a membership to a single gym that they will rarely visit. Especially when they sign up for a certain activity, but can’t find the time to go. With Inggez, we are offering a cost-effective and convenient alternative that appeals to everyone.
What is the impact you are working to achieve?
Maraabeh: The potential to tap into the fitness and health industry in Palestine and the MENA region to not only create business and economic opportunities for thousands, but to work on a solution that has the potential to change the way gym memberships work is very exciting for us.
Tazami: We want more people to change their mindsets, get active, and improve the quality of their lives.
